Obnažena i pevačica Katarina Sotirović

Sad i nikad više

BOKSER I MANEKEN

UZ PLES DO ZORE - TORTILJE

1

SNOOP DOGG

HIP-HOP VELIČINA

"Tata" hip-hop kulture i najveći među reperima i doslovno nosi ovu laskavu titulu.

3

LIV TYLER

POGLED SA VISINE

Većina muškaraca, verovatno zbog nekih svojih frustracija i kompleksa, nije baš naklonjena izuzetno visokim ženama.

I to fudbalska!

5

MARY-KATE & ASHLEY OLSEN

METAR I ŠUMSKE JAGODICE

That's the spirit! :)

On je i upozorio Britney: "Pazi! Baby One More Time" (1998) i učinio je svetskom zvezdom!

A Kevin? Kada sledeći put bude poželeo da vidi svoju bivšu ženu, moraće da uključi televizor...

Fashion week in Milan

Second-skin dresses, plunging necklines and nipped-in waists: the key word for next winter is glamour at Versace, which presented its ready-to-wear collection today, along with a few Oscar-ready gowns.

Donatella Versace knows how to attract A-list celebrities: US hip hop star Missy Elliott and British model-actress Elizabeth Hurley sat front and centre, along with designers Miuccia Prada and Canadian twins Dean and Dan Caten, who will present their DSquared2 collection on Saturday.

Versace cinched the waists of her outfits as much as possible to create a sharp contrast with the extra-large collars of overcoats and blousons.

Cigarette trousers were cut ultra-slim, while airy cocktail dresses brought to mind the iconic white halter dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in The Seven-Year Itch.

Sultry siren gowns encrusted with Swarovski crystals - part of the Atelier haute couture collection no longer shown in Paris due to budget constraints - hugged the body.

White is the color of the season, with acid green and turquoise providing a bit of punch.

Karl Lagerfeld conjured up a seductive winter ready-to-wear wardrobe at Fendi perfect for the style-conscious socialite, while Miuccia Prada channelled her inner schoolgirl at Miu Miu.

For Lagerfeld, next winter must be spent in one of the world's posh ski resort towns like Saint-Moritz or Aspen, making fur coats - a Fendi staple - an absolute necessity for autumn-winter 2005-06.

The German designer, who will present his collections for Chanel and his own Lagerfeld Gallery next week in Paris, shaved or knitted his chinchillas, minks and fox coats in chocolate brown, purple and red to give them a new twist.

He experimented with volume by pairing body-hugging dresses with huge anorak-style furs or oversized blouson jackets. For evening, a bejewelled eggplant velvet dress under a white mink coat popped off the catwalk.

One dress had "1925" scrawled across the back - this year, Fendi is celebrating its 80th birthday. To mark the occasion, the label dusted off a classic squirrel logo for its latest line of must-have handbags.

With berets or demure tulle veils on their heads, the models at the Miu Miu show resembled prim buttoned-up students at a boarding school. No low-slung ripped jeans here - just white blouses, twinsets and knee-length skirts in tweed, gray flannel or tiny check patterns.

But Prada never delivers a blatantly obvious fashion message. She added a dash of irony to her diffusion line by adorning collars and coats with Mongolian goat fur or adding a patchwork of coloured leather to a short cape.

Huge embroidered flowers, metallic brocades and cashmere prints added a bit of optimism to the collection, but for those who like basic black, Prada sent out an impeccable daytime suit and a black chantilly lace dress for evening.

At Moschino, black is also a sure bet for next winter, at any time of the day - even if the ensemble is glittering with gold sequins. The vintage spirit pervaded the collection, which was a bit subdued by the house's standards.

Delicate pinstriped shirts slipped under black pinafore dresses. Girlish flounces breathed life into a khaki bolero worn over full military-style trousers. A trim tweed suit had the right dose of impertinence. Blouses with puffy sleeves added a bit of romance.

Antonio Marras likes women who travel. The Sardinia native, who will unveil his collection for French house Kenzo on March 5 in Paris, dressed his wayfaring ladies in sparkling camouflage prints.

Gypsy skirts in shades of green and brown swirled underneath straight-cut masculine jackets in khaki astrakhan or close-cut chocolate leather spencers. Denim sparkled with jewelled buttons.

When Marras opted for ensembles in his preferred black and white, he used elaborate embroidery and floral prints to give his collection an energy boost.

Milan fashion week continues tomorrow with shows from Roberto Cavalli, Trussardi and Gianfranco Ferre. Dolce and Gabbana, Salvatore Ferragamo and Philosophy by Alberta Ferretti take centre stage on Saturday.

PAMELA ANDERSON...!!!!

While Pamela Anderson may have sent adrenalin levels soaring in the immensely popular Baywatch series, her co-star David Hasselhoff never fell for her during filming. But now after nine years of leaving the show the actor revealed that he has fallen for the blonde beauty.

The singer/actor admits he didn’t find her attractive when they starred together in the cult lifeguard programme.

“I never fancied Pamela - until recently. I was sitting next to her at a party at the Playboy Mansion and there was loads of chemistry,” he was quoted by Contactmusic, as saying.

“I thought how funny it would be if we hooked up now. But she’s married… sadly,” he added.

DIAZ HAS NO PLANES TO GET MARRIED!!!!

Justin Timberlake will no longer have to look for ways to skip saying ‘I need more time’ each time his actress girlfriend Cameron Diaz asked for a commitment, for the latter has changed her mind, admitting she doesn’t want to get hitched.

Earlier reports revealed that the couple, who have been dating for almost four years now, went through a bad phase in their relationship a few months ago because Diaz wanted the singer to commit marriage to her, which Timberlake was allegedly not ready for.

But an honest confession by Diaz on The Ellen DeGeneres Show recently can now help the toyboy lover take a sigh of relief. The Mask actress has told DeGeneres that she’s scared of commitment and, doesn’t want to get married.

“I don’t want to get married, I just want to catch the bouquet because I have a collection of bouquets,” TMZ. com quoted Diaz, as telling the talk show host. When DeGeneres asked Timberlake, 25, about his engagement rumours earlier this year and if she should get a bridesmaid’s dress, the singer jokingly replied: “Go ahead and reserve one. The only thing is, you’ll have to stay the same size for the next 15 years.”

Hilary and Joel Split?! -- Say it Ain’t So!

When pop princess Hilary Duff and rock superstar Joel Madden started dating two and a half years ago -- remember how baffled we all were? From the outside, it looked like the sugar sweet Lizzie McGuire had little in common with the tattooed Good Charlotte lead singer.

But the unlikely duo proved us all wrong and showed that we really can’t judge people based on appearances. Their eight-year age difference hardly mattered -- and they soon became one of Hollywood’s sweetest couples, collaborating on music together and throwing compliments back and forth to each other on the red carpet. Awww…

But it’s over now for the duo. Joel’s representative confirmed the two have split. The first hint the public got was when he supposedly told people they were no longer together at an appearance he made in Chicago at the nightclub Enclave last Wednesday.

Just a couple weeks ago on November 10, Hilary phoned CosmoGIRL! from Bulgaria where she was filming her new flick Brand Hauser: Stuff Happens and was dishing about how she often gets book recommendations from her boyfriend Joel. He had recently suggested the Chronicles of Narnia series and The Five People That You Meet in Heaven, both of which she loved. But she did admit, “We have different tastes though sometimes,” referring to his love for war books that she didn’t care for.

Hope it wasn’t just a simple difference in tastes that led to the break-up! Some sources say the age difference was to blame.

FASHION WOMEN....

The beauty of a little black dress is that it will take you to just about any party -- except the most casual or most formal -- and look perfect.

Coco Chanel introduced the little black dress to our fashion vocabulary back in the early 1900s as part of her attempt to make fashion accessible and modern. The first little black dress was a simple chemise, later followed by other little black dresses.
Almost a century later, the LBD remains the pinnacle of modern dressing.

FASHION JESICA ALBA

JESSICA ALBA ARRIVED ON THE WINGS OF DARK ANGEL AND FANTASTIC FOUR, BUT THIS YEAR HER CAREER HAS ENTERED A ZONE BEYOND SUPER. SUDDENLY, HOLLYWOOD CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF THE STYLISH STAR. BY DAVE ITZKOFF. PHOTOGRAPHED BY GILLES BENSIMON.

"I'm not a kissing whore!"

Jessica Alba giggles as she shouts this impromptu declaration, aimed in part at the cast and crew of Good Luck Chuck, a romantic comedy she spent the summer filming for likely release next year, and in particular at her costar Dane Cook, the wiry, hyperkinetic comedian with whom she's been locking lips for the past dozen or so takes. On a soundstage in Hollywood North (aka Vancouver, British Columbia) built to look like the interior of an airplane, the on-screen paramours have been filmed from every possible angle while engaged in a passionate kiss. And Alba, the dusky temptress whose curvy frame and strategically bared midriff may have been single-handedly responsible for the cinematic successes of Sin City and Fantastic Four, is equally amused and appalled by Cook's sarcastic suggestion that their embrace might look more convincing if she'd let him use a little tongue.

At the age of 25, the unflappable actress has heard every corny come-on imaginable, and she retaliates with some constructive criticism of her own. "You're totally squashing my nose," she tells Cook. "You have to work on that. And does your hand have to be up my shirt? 'Cause that was weird."

It's only the first week of production on the first comedy that Alba has ever starred in, but she's prepared to sass anyone who sasses her, whether it's the movie's director, Mark Helfrich, or its cinematographer, Tony Richmond, who got his start on David Lean's epic romance Doctor Zhivago. ("Is that as good as Doctor Zhivago?" she asks Richmond after one torrid take. "A little Julie Christie-Omar Sharif action for you?")

NATURAL WOMAN-BEYONCE

BEYONCÉ HAS ALWAYS BEEN ALL-BUSINESS—BUT NOW MS. NO-NONSENSE IS LOOSENING UP WITH AN EARTHIER STYLE, A QUIRKY NEW ALBUM, AND A GUTSY, EMOTIONAL PERFORMANCE IN DREAMGIRLS THAT'S GOT PEOPLE TALKING OSCAR. BY AARON GELL. PHOTOGRAPHED BY GILLES BENSIMON.

Beyoncé Knowles, poised, professional, perfectly put-together, turns out to have a rich inner life, just like the rest of us. Recently, hints of a new Beyoncé—an intriguingly volatile and emotional one—have been appearing, fine little cracks in the porcelain. Her raw and audacious new album, B'day, may as well be the work of an altogether different person from the sweet-natured superwoman behind her earlier solo effort, Dangerously in Love. And her turn in Dreamgirls, out December 21, shows an actress willing to mine the depths of her own soul. "She's very tortured," says acting coach Ivana Chubbuck, who has coaxed devastating, Oscar-bait performances out of Halle Berry and Charlize Theron and who helped Beyoncé prepare for her breakthrough role in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the beloved 1981 musical. As her former Destiny's Child bandmate Kelly Rowland puts it, "I don't ever want to see her mad—really, I'm scared to!"

The group's third member, Michelle Williams, agrees. "I've seen a side of her that's been like, 'Whoa,' and I sure don't want that side to come out on me," she says. It's not that Beyoncé actually loses control. Instead, Williams says, it's more like a subtle disturbance in the Force. "It's something in the laugh that doesn't quite giggle right or something."

This is not to say that she's letting down her guard entirely. The woman still never, ever dishes about her personal life. Is she getting married in November (in a $3 million ceremony on Anguilla) to her longtime beau Jay-Z, as Star recently reported? "It's a nice rumor," Beyoncé coquettishly answers a fan who pops the question in New York at a promotional party for B'day, but also for her twenty-fifth b'day—hence the endless parade of cakes. An ambiguous and serene smile—the smile of a princess being honored by her subjects—plays over her lips.

There are other, not-so-nice rumors making the rounds as well. They're fueled by her new record, which includes the siren-studded rage-athon "Ring the Alarm" (about her man cheating on her with another woman) and the heart-stopping ballad "Irreplaceable" (same basic idea), the breathy lament "Kitty Kat" (ditto), and the accusatory showstopper "Resentment" (you got it). Taken together, they leave the inescapable impression that someone has done Beyoncé very, very wrong.

"Even though I'm very happy and I don't have any drama in my life," she explains patiently, "I didn't want to do another album full of love songs. I did that the last time. It's boring." And no, lyrics such as, "You're probably thinking/ What's up with B?/ I've been crying for too long/ What did you do to me?/ You lied, you lied, you lied," from "Resentment," have no bearing whatsoever on those Internet rumors about Jay-Z stepping out on her with Rihanna. In fact, they aren't autobiographical in the slightest. Jay-Z has never cheated on her, she says: "I'm sure people will read into that, but there's nothing to read into. Sorry to disappoint you!"

DEVIL WEARS PRADA

Andrea Sachs, a small-town girl fresh out of college, lands the job "a million girls would die for." Hired as the assistant to Miranda Priestly, the high-profile, fabulously successful editor of Runway magazine, Andrea finds herself in an office that shouts Prada! Armani! Versace! at every turn, a world populated by impossibly thin, heart-wrenchingly stylish women and beautiful men clad in fine-ribbed turtlenecks and tight leather pants that show off their lifelong dedication to the gym. With breathtaking ease, Miranda can turn each and every one of these hip sophisticates into a scared, whimpering child.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA gives a rich and hilarious new meaning to plaints about "The Boss from Hell." Narrated in Andrea's smart, refreshingly disarming voice, it traces a deep, dark, devilish view of life at the top only hinted at in gossip columns and over Cosmopolitans at the trendiest cocktail parties. From sending the latest, not-yet-in-stores Harry Potter to Miranda's children in Paris by private jet, to locating an unnamed antique store where Miranda had at some point admired a vintage dresser, to serving lattes to Miranda at precisely the piping hot temperature she prefers, Andrea is sorely tested each and every day--and often late into the night with orders barked over the phone. She puts up with it all by keeping her eyes on the prize: a recommendation from Miranda that will get Andrea a top job at any magazine of her choosing. As things escalate from the merely unacceptable to the downright outrageous, however, Andrea begins to realize that the job a million girls would die for may just kill her. And even if she survives, she has to decide whether or not the job is worth the price of her soul.

ROBERTO CAVALLI spring 2007

MILAN, September 30, 2006 – What was remarkable about Roberto Cavalli's show was how subdued it felt. Yes, there were back-laced corsets, silver and gold embellishments, and beads galore. But the glamazon of collections past, who first showed signs of flagging last season, has been replaced by a woman who wears a thick braid in her hair and more often than not works the subtler side of sexy. How? By donning toreador jackets and a relaxed pant, cut full through the leg and cropped at mid-calf. She even, believe it or not, wears flats. The result was a show that took a step or two in a new direction without alienating Cavalli's core customer.

Just because there was a masculine undercurrent to the collection didn't mean that there wasn't plenty of the line's signature flash. Those jackets were edged in lavish embroideries and beads; shirt fronts were dripping in frills; and a coat in metallic leather was so elaborately laser-cut it could've been lace. Ethnic touches, nearly absent in New York and London, have been edging their way back onto the Milan runways. The fringe seen elsewhere this week appeared on a shirtdress, as well as at the hems of suede skirts macraméd through the waist and hips. A flamenco dancer's flounces, meanwhile, decorated the sleeves of a crystal-belted dress.

No Cavalli show is complete without animal prints, of course. For spring, leopard prints dotted a corset and zebra stripes radiated from the center of a chiffon gown with dramatically trailing sleeves. This piece stood out from more predictable evening fare, such as halter gowns with open backs and a provocatively sheer rhinestone-encrusted dress. He edged into showgirl territory with a beaded black number that wasn't much more substantial than a leotard, but again, it didn't look crass. And, after all, he has to give his loyalists what they come for.

LOUIS VUITTON spring 2007

PARIS, October 8, 2006 – Dark clouds swirled ominously on a video backdrop. Then, in a defiant bid to shoot a ray of light into gloomy times, Marc Jacobs sent out his romantic-cum-sporty, casual-but-pretty Vuitton collection—motivated, he said, by his championing of "beauty, despite everything." A mattress-ticking anorak, over cropped white cotton drill pants and a funny cheap checked shopping bag that carried a big, passport-style Louis Vuitton stamp, set the mood. As usual, though, this collection was a complex refraction of the many inspirational sparks that go into the work here: pieces synthesized to project the simultaneous multinational appeal this brand must maintain.

As it developed, the show patched in elements of Victoriana (corseted leg-of-mutton-sleeve jackets, cotton-muslin underpinnings) against oxford-blue men's shirting, sprigged Liberty-style prints, balletic tulle petticoats, and washed-out khaki parachute silks. Add the detail of puffy pockets, drawstring ruching, tape ties, and suspended shapes, and you have the laundry list, though not the complete essence of it. The X-factor is the Asia-facing appeal in all this prettiness. Jacobs and his team were in Tokyo for a Vuitton show last May, and while they were at it, they looked at the streets and took in some shopping at one of Japan's specialist figua stores, which sell hyper-lifelike child dolls clothed in complete wardrobes of faerie frills and flounces.

That reading delighted the junior Japanese fashion editors in the audience, who, like the girls back home, kill for the kawaii (trans.: cute) aesthetic Jacobs consistently fields so well at Vuitton. To Western audiences, meanwhile, the faded, watered-tea-to-dusty-rose tints and the hint of Meissen milkmaid skewed more Marie Antoinette aftermath. No disagreements, though. It was young and refreshing, and the multilingual signage in the bags and the shape of hollowed-out shoe heels flashed out loud and clear. "LV-OE," it read.

PRADA spring 2007

MILAN, September 26, 2006 – When Miuccia Prada is on form, only one thing's guaranteed: Whatever she did last season, she'll be the first to hate it, throw it out, and start somewhere else. Thus, fashion's most restless creative force has nixed the street-fighting toughie look she did for winter. In its place was a startling, destabilizing piece of extreme chic that flew directly in the face of all the current chatter about lightness, volume, and shades of beige.

A turbaned girl in a burgundy duchesse ultrashort tunic—all bare legs and high heels—started the show off, swiftly followed by another in a purple, high-necked long-sleeved satin dress reaching below the knee. What was this? Why were nylon backpacks strapped to those tiny, bottom-skimming tops? Why were these looks interspersed with forties-looking, rounded-shoulder dresses, blouses, and slim pencil skirts? And why all the strong reds, oranges, and jewel-colored satins for summer?

Because Prada felt like it. "I just wanted it to be about fashion," she shrugged backstage. "The importance of fashion." Still, this collection held an image of a powerful woman at its center, filtered through unmistakable references to Yves Saint Laurent (his "forties" collection from the seventies; a touch Loulou de la Falaise, to be precise). These were not random choices; in fact, they are two of the underlying constants in Prada's work. One thing she despises, though, is the overinterpretation of her motives; instinct and spontaneity guide her just as much as intellectual reasoning. She laughed at one journalist's anxious questioning about the short pieces, saying, "I just didn't like anything I did below the waist." Meaning, "Don't panic, these are tops." And, like everything else in this richly provocative show, they're going to look totally wearable in a store come spring.

25.11.2006.

GUCCI spring 2007

MILAN, September 27, 2006 – Frida Giannini decided to steer Gucci out of the seventies disco for spring, further away from the hot-and-sexy territory so emphatically occupied by Tom Ford. "I've been thinking about the early sixties, and a few things from the archive," she said of a show that began with short black coats and dresses piped in purple, orange, and red and that was grounded with block-heeled flats. It's Gucci's 85th anniversary, and Giannini's thoughts had probably been set in motion by flicking through paparazzi photos of the leggy likes of Ursula Andress and Britt Ekland, shopping at the company's Rome branch. But in the end, what she put on the runway had more to do with her efforts to broaden the brand's accessibility to young women than with reciting the history.

The collection looked best when Giannini stuck to graphic shifts. Decorated with hexagons of silver beading on white, they were worn with cute silver space-age flats. A few long, patchwork-print Empire scarf dresses—a revisiting of an idea in her first resort collection—had a similarly unforced appeal. She also showed refabricated updates of the skinny pants, boxy jackets, and low-heeled Beatle boots that were a hit for spring. Ultimately, though, the pressure to show a variety of potential hot sellers made for a lack of coherence. A puzzling passage of folkloric, vaguely Tyrolean printed dresses in the middle seemed to have nothing much to do with the rest, nor did it make any connection to trends emerging elsewhere. Not to say these looks won't be nice for a girly vacation come next summer, but to put forward a stronger point of view, Giannini needs to learn what's for retail racks, and what makes a concise statement in a show.

CHANEL spring 2007

PARIS, October 6, 2006 –
With perfect pitch, Karl Lagerfeld dashed off yet another virtuoso demonstration of how to play up and down the classic Chanel scale in tune with any season. It was up-tempo, light and girly, with a cute opening device: a bouncy parade of girls in standard-issue white cotton cabine coats swinging along, attracting all attention to stacks of gold cuffs, link bracelets, chain-and-pearl necklaces, and plastic-Lucite-and-glitter wedges and platforms.

The segue into the short, A-line, and fluttery was carried off, sans effort, via breezy white flared tops over little black skirts, with a trill on the abbreviated white tucked-front shirtdress, and a high-note from a gold-quilted chain bag. Then the clever bit: What on earth to do with the old, potentially heavy-wash-cloth Chanel tweeds in such a mood? Why, put them with black sequin short shorts—thus chiming with the leggy forties showgirl theme of the moment—and shoot sparkle through the borders of the bouclé.

Instead of the multitudinous flocks of options he has sent out in the last few seasons, this single-file presentational march condensed everything that can be thoroughly Chanel, yet completely du jour. While he was at it, Lagerfeld also dashed off sporty striped T-shirt dresses, tulle-covered denim, Edie Sedgwick, metallic-scuba, and puffy Empire organza moments, but mostly it was all about those newly wantable accessories. Black leather quilted mini bags, smothered with biker-like metal logo badges, were the final ta-da. In other words, a hit.

CHRISTIAN DIOR spring 2007

PARIS, October 3, 2006 –
The pattern of runway events at Christian Dior is forming a kind of paradigm of what fashion, and its xafsing, are about now. As a designer at one of the most powerful houses in the world, John Galliano must address multiple global audiences, with the tiny core of fashion-hungry critics at one end and a vast potential public of women who are looking for something to wear at the other. So this is how it pans out: The idea-fueled Dior mania is sectioned off for couture, while ready-to-wear strikes up a conversation directly with the customer.

That explains the settled-down atmosphere on the spring runway. This was a collection that spanned sensible gray Dior skirt-suits through wearably pretty dresses, with plenty of the obligatory, all-important, and this season gimmick-free chain-handled handbags. The soft, drapey, asymmetric necklined dresses, sprinkled with silver chain or tendrils of gold embroidery, ran through short to gown-length options in the prevailing spectrum of barely-there flesh tones. None of this generated the kind of news to put the fashion pack on trend alert, but it did carry the Galliano stamp in the armor detailing of the suits (translated from last couture) and in the signature drift of his dresses. That placed Dior firmly in the business-like arena of appropriately of-the-moment dressing, a zone an established Parisian label like this has every right to occupy. For the next creative surge forward, watch January's couture.

Calvin Klein Spring 2007

NEW YORK, September 14, 2006 –
Calvin Klein's Francisco Costa took home the Designer of the Year award from the CFDA earlier this summer. That’s a lot to live up to, but from the looks of his spring collection, no one put quite as much pressure on Costa as he did himself. Today, he second-guessed his way off his own forward-moving trajectory and seemed to wind up in the archives of Helmut Lang. Yes, there was a lightness to portions of this collection that recalled the work he began last year. But unlike those A-line tent dresses, the transparent fabrics he used today were shirred, pleated, tucked, and folded to the nth degree. In short, they were sorely lacking in simplicity.

A more streamlined grouping of sporty layered tank dresses, along with cropped jackets and skirts cut from tech-y fabric that resembled breathable athletic mesh had a bit more American ease. And it should be noted that the collection wasn’t entirely without fabulous items. He put a great oversized black parka on Natalia Vodianova, who was back on his runway exclusively for the first time after giving birth to her second child this spring. Before starting work on next season, Costa will have to learn to trust his own proven instincts again.

As a correspondent for Entertainment Tonight and host of MTV's wildly popular TRL, Vanessa Minnillo has to look glam on the go. The thing is, she's as stunning and stylish as the stars she interviews. No wonder the paparazzi have started trailing her.

SEXY RULES

Who says hot means having to show lots of flesh? There's a subtler way to be sultry: Just slither into sensual fabrics, offer a glimpse of skin, and top it all off with a devilish detail or two.

CRAZY FOR COCO!!!!!!

Model of the moment Coco Rocha shows off the best new look for fall.

Tall, thin, young and pretty. Yes, yes, it’s obvious that Canada’s latest It model, Coco Rocha, has the catwalk criteria down. But if you didn’t know that this fair-skinned 18-year-old, wearing the uniform of any North American teen (skinny jeans, cute metallic flats), is the fashion world’s current reigning mannequin, you could blink and miss her—as I almost did upon entering Elite Model Management’s Toronto headquarters to meet her. But it’s precisely this sort of “double-take” beauty that’s getting the Richmond, B.C., native booked left and right. As fashion’s pendulum swings away from wide-eyed, doll-like baby faces, à la Lisa Cant and Heather Marks, the collective eye is landing on the polar opposite, in the form of edgy belles like half–Irish/Russian, half–Irish/Welsh Rocha and Karl Lagerfeld’s current muse, fellow Canadian Irina Lazareanu.

A large part of Rocha’s universal appeal lies with her Karen Elson–esque ability to transform with a quick splash of eyeliner. Blessed with a symmetrically aligned visage and full lower lip, Rocha can rock gamine sex kitten as easily as gothy androgyne, with every degree of fashion muse in between. Starring solo in this fall’s Balenciaga campaign, she’s miles of dark legs, a massive teased-out mane and an indifferent pout. In the Dolce & Gabbana ads, she’s an ethereal pre-Raphaelite goddess reclining in a setting of baroque grandeur.

With her background in ballet, jazz and, most recently, Irish dancing (yes, Irish dancing), the aspect of the job she enjoys most is performing, whether it be on the runway or in character for a Steven Meisel shoot. After all, it was at a 2002 Irish dancing competition that a model scout first approached the posture-perfect teen.

“She can be a real chameleon,” says photographer Greg Sorensen. “Coco’s very aware of her body—how it moves and how she can shape it. I think a lot of that comes from dance. She has a very natural ability to adapt as you’re shooting, to create really beautiful images.”

“I’ve always loved entertaining—dancing, drama, acting,” she says. No doubt her years of training have honed those skills to the point of major payoff.

But she’s a self-confessed fashion virgin. “In New York, they call me fashion illiterate,” she jokes. While Rocha was home last spring to write her finals, her best friends—ironically, fashion fiends—crammed fashion 411 lessons between study sessions. “At home, it was usually just jeans and running shoes,” she says. “But now because of the designers and the other models, my style’s evolving. I’m getting a lot of help in that area.”

As for her response to the hype surrounding her meteoric rise to fashion stardom, she manages a rather nonchalant shrug. “I’m just going with the flow right now. It’s only just begun.” And while Cinderella stories are nothing new in the fashion world, in her case the take-it-or-leave-it stance is utterly believable—it’s not as if she’ll be returning to life as a barista if this plum gig falls through. “Before all this,” she confesses sheepishly, “the plan was to go into law.”

SOMETHING ABOUT FASHION....

"Fashion and politics are both a reflection of society—ideally, working for and with the people. So whether we are deciding on which delegate or denim brand to vote for, the end result is the same: We want the one that delivers. And while politics may have no business in the bedroom, it certainly does in the closet as the concept of “jean therapy” is growing in popularity among female and male denim divas.
